XYSM
- CH40 CD

XYSM, as an acronym, stands for the first names of Christos (in Greek: Χρίστος) Chondropoulos, Yannis Saxonis, Sèbastien Marteau and Manolis Chatzidakis. XYSM also stands out as an example of an outsider band that doesn’t go with the (global) flow but follows a maverick, visionary instinct. An instinct so strong and bold as to create an urge to experiment that is propelled by a juvenile thirst – combined with the maturity that stems from the long separate paths of the four musicians through the years.
“CH4O” is XYSM’s first proper release on a factory pressed CD, in a larger quantity, by a record company. Even though the band made these recordings for this purpose, it can surely be nothing more than just a glance of XYSM’s wide range of musical expression, aesthetics and amalgamated dynamics. This mini album focuses in the space exploration and restrained crescents created by percussion, modular electronics, reeds and amplified zither. Try to catch them in one of their rather infrequent live appearances, enjoy this album and be sure to check out some of their other recordings. You never know what the next track might be like.
Edition of 300 copies w/ oversisized, fold-out offset printing, housed in a PVC sleeve. Includes extensive liner notes by Panagiotis Spoulos.

FRANCE SAUVAGE
- Το Μικρό Κορίτσι από τον Υπόνομο CDR

Recorded in Athens, Greece and edited the very same night, this mini album captures perfectly the cold atmosphere of a band being abroad, visiting a studio they've never seen before for just one session and create something that urges to be more free than usual. The concrete trio of France Sauvage (Manuel Duval, Arno Bruil and Johann Mazé) uses modular synthesizers, field recordings, contact mics, chants and numerous junk sources in the direct, in-your-face tradition of France's experimental scene and this album is really close to how these three interact at a non-local show of them: Energetic, raw, adventurous, focused. The english translation of the title is "The Little Girl from the Sewer" and could not be more accurate for the feelings which bloom while listening to this album.
Edition of 60 copies w/ paste-on artwork and and obi strip on heavy cardstock folder.

LOST BODIES
- Φιγουρίνι CD

Phase! is proud to release the latest Lost Bodies' statement "Φιγουρίνι", the long awaited new album which will definitely please every LB fan! Almost 80 minutes of the signature avant gags, power punk arena favorites and twisted bastard-folk experiments, including studio versions of gig highlights like "Παρίσι Ντακάρ", "Αξέχαστο", "Γελάστε" and "Ιλισός". Lone kings of the athenian underground for more than 25 years (even though, they delivered some wtf moments through Virgin in the early '00s), Lost Bodies possibly stand as the only example of a pure caricatural sarcasm on Greece's rotten guts through a musically-incorrect quintessence of how political correction should be defined.
Edition of 300 copies w/ full-color artwork.

beaTol & the Eagol
- Λάιβ EP 1-sided C60

Compiled material from 4 different concerts, it's a side of pure sample mash-up and a fine example of how a beaTol & the Eagol show sounds like: dizziness in stereo, beat distraction, jingled-up experimental music interconnected to twisted pop haikus. There are so many ideas in there but so is the abstain of persistence!

Brian Ruryk
- Weird Doods C31

We always listen to new releases from our favorite Canadian destructionist, Brian Ruryk, with awe and impatience. He goes a step forward every time and that always makes you wonder from which direction this ultra violent metal screeching, glass breaking, frequence growl and intergalactic feedback zap will invade your head. Of course, this album is no exception. It sounds like the household explosion in the final sequence of "Zabriskie Point" playing in double speed. Plus more takes of it, reoccurring w/ asynchronously delay repeats causing pile-up crashes and demolition derbys.
Limited edition of 50 w/ full color artwork printed on metallic paper.

Sewn Leather is a trigger, a road warrior, the punk that can be smoked. Somewhere between Whitehouse nihilism, Wolf Eyes' high pitched suffocation and evil Prodigy rhythmology, Griifin Pyn re-invents the 21st century punk! On "??a?? F???e??? ?S. ???? SARONGS
- S/T C30

Sarongs were a 5-piece from Syracuse, New York which shook things up w/ sweaty DIY house shows and an awkward sound which confused everyone. When all other bands were dealing w/ playful garage warmth, Sarongs were making stripped-down minimal prog w/ doses of post punk, witty lyrics and raw, focused energy. Always true, often political, way ahead of their times. This is a reissue of the first Sarongs cassette that was released in 2011 by Prison Art / Velidoxi Records, not to be confused w/ the also eponymous LP that followed a year later.
Edition of 100 cassettes w/ on-body printing and multi-fold j-card w/ excerpts of the only Sarongs interview, courtesy of "Bande a Part" zine.

TOM CRUISIN'
- The Drifter's Almanac 3''CDR

This is the kind of music you should be listening while driving your car in a big metropolitan city, way deep into the night. City looks abandoned but you feel there's a pulse hidden somewhere. A duet, sounds a bit like a Suicide cover band, is playing at the lowest basement downtown. So loud and so low, the tires bouncing over asphalt vibrations caused by groovebox pumps and fiendish electricity. It's the sound of the city itself. A city which looks different every morning but is always the same at night.
Edition of 70 copies w/ artwork and disc attached on heavy cardstock.

BALINESE BEAST / WHAM JAH
Split LP

A long time in the works, we finally drop off a true early 10's Athens underground artifact. Two of the most active Greek bands, Balinese Beast (the cut-up stomp-punch destruction duo of Ilan Manouach and Giorgos Axiotis) and Wham Jah (the free-form rambunctious electrical mayhem of Pavlos Gkousios, Kostadis Michail and Panagiotis Spoulos) deliver two sides of an eye-sparkling platter filled w/ energy, persistence, baffle and soothing noise. Two entirely different approaches, one strong heart endorsing in musical poodle-like affection.

NEDERLAGET
- To Feil Er Bedre Enn En Rett C20

New superstar death-duo by the northern sound assassins Sindre Bjerga & Lasse Marhaug. Their first proper release (so proper that has been "recorded at the best studio in Oslo", as stated in the release credits) contains 20 minutes of freezing cold electronic (non) music, which hardly restrains from exploding in your face in the most brutal way you could imagine. It is, indeed, a fine balancing act of accurate controlled power cut-ups from hands who don't need to prove anything or, at the very most, raise the middle finger. Bravely.

PHIL MINTON & DYLAN NYOUKIS
- Live in Athens 1-sided LP

"it was in dhalgren that i had read about a father getting fired, and who trying not to depress his family about it, wakes up every day, shaves, dresses himself up, has breakfast and leaves for his "work". where does his spent his almost 8 to 10 hours? a mystery. perhaps crying on a park's bench or drinking or whatever. however, there are times when reality creates even more dystopian images than those in sam delaney's aforementioned opus... it was through such events that our interest in the human voice was brought again forward, and it was upon a discussion on the instruments that we might fancy to hear after the quake of our mechanized world, that we decided on the human voice. it was something that evolved naturally, as since the depression's outbreak, little by little we've started digging recordings of the human voice (voice as the original instrument to quote joan la barbara's classic recording). so when the idea of setting up a live set focused only on the human voice came up, the names of phil minton and dylan nyoukis were thrown on the table immediately and without hesitation we invited them for what turned out to be one the most physical and vital live sets we had set up for a looong time. a set of vocal pirouettes and juxtapositions between dylan and phil which send us flying for almost half an hour that night at the basement of knot gallery and once again fueled our enthusiasm for adventure and quest. besides this, it turned into a great opportunity for 3 fellow conceptualists (ourselves) to collaborate on something they fancied and out of their enthusiasm this document is being released." Nicolas Malevitsis, October 2012

PUTSUM
- Afro Black Metal C60

Three Putsum live performances which took place between late 2011 and early 2012. He proved that Vlad Tepes Dracula was a vegetarian using a caustic reference to reality TV, shouted that Black Metal is not a caucasian-male exclusive benefit, and ressurrected Christ to a fucking zombie, which is something more rational, by the way. The Putsum performances stand between conceptual art, arte povera and punk actionism but the music itself has something else: the unique blended sequence of a madman's mind. You might not get the whole picture, but you are surely getting another view of this great project!
Tour only cassette, in an edition of 65 copies w/ screenprinted fold-out j-cards. Limited stock, catch Putsum on the road w/ Bazooka and Gay Anniversary all over Europe this May. Tour dates here.

A stunning new album including 5 long jams (23 minutes each side) which balance perfectly between the homey "Strange Maine" sound, the collage aesthetic of "The Grove" and the extraordinary singer/songwriter approach as heard on "Dead Songs". DJ MISTAKES
- 1-sided LP

“DJ mistakes are two exercise bicycle driven turntables fabricated and ridden by Casey Farnum and Elliot Hess. This project re-introduces spontaneity into the DJ experience and asks how production and industry have assembled to create a listening experience quite different from the hand-cranked turntables it was initially borne from. With a shrug to the practice of crystallizing performances and their reception through vinyl and the audiophile entertainment- center this project re-introduces human touch into the listening experience. It looks back nostalgically to a time when gears and bicycles were the stuff of aural and physical revolutions. Yet it also seeks a contemporary framework in the DJ era where cutting and mixing revolutionized production making it both unpredictable and live. Bikes, turntables, gongs, a mixer, records, and a microphone all mash in this recording live from the Chicken Hut and 1086 Broadway, Brooklyn NY 2006-7.” Phil Schapp, 2011
Limited numbered edition of 200 copies on 1-sided 12”LP, offset covers on metallic paper + inners.

White vinyl, limited to 300 copies w/ the usual die-cut Hundebiss madness covers.
Stargate is something in between pre-sleep Tetris Effect and Trance music in slowmotion: gated soft synth arpeggios smoothly modulate towards brutal supersawed patterns, disintegrating into ecstatic vocals. You are opening the doors of an Ibizia club at 5 am, the foam is all around and your eyes start twisting, your brain is gently stretched & pitched down. You are locked into the longest build-up ever. PANOS ALEXIADIS
- Katabasis LP

‘Katabasis' is the first solo album proper from Panos Alexiadis -an electronic musician based in Athens- following a series of cassette and cdr releases with various projects/aliases.

With a title that translates to ‘descend’, Katabasis is a concrète sound environment generated through real-time synthesis using modular electronics, acoustic instrument samples and location recordings. Aiming to create a distinct psychoacoustic experience, the music avoids any overt tonal structures, focusing instead on the construction of immersive acoustic spaces that display strong ties to classic electronic music as much as they reveal Alexiadis’ unique voice.

The music was mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi, and is produced on an edition of 300 on vinyl. The first side of the LP houses the main piece itself, while the second provides space for an addendum which extends the possibilities of this music to a purely electronic piece. ‘15:21’ mirrors the first track in its construction but drops the use of any pre-recorded elements from its palette, revealing the stark and raw beauty at the root of the artist’s work. -Rekem

COSTIS DRYGIANAKIS
- Blown into Breeze LP

Costis Drygianakis is a Greek composer of electroacoustic music. He started producing music in the middle 80s under the name "?pt??? ???s???" (Optical Music), a project rather than a band. In 1999 he released two radical solo electroacoustic works in the currently inactive Greek label "??O" (EDO records) and a collaborative disc with Nikos Veliotis (absurd, 201). In 2012 he contributes to our Nous series a composition that is based on the music composed for the installation by Manolis Yiannadakis with the same title (??ad??µ?, translation: itinerary).

Blown Into Breeze is the new LP by Costis Drygianakis, including 4 new tracks, composed from November 2012 till March 2013, mainly based on older recordings. Drygianakis works with a narrative perspective, organizing his recordings in a number of thematic, creating a series of sound events, experiences, whether noisy or melodically. He uses a wide range of sounds, from field recordings to laptop experimentations. Some of the contributing artists on this album are Nikos Veliotis, Stylianos Tziritas, Tasos Stamou, Stathis Theocharakis, Lilly Varaklioti and Dimitris Aitopoulos.

The LP is a limited edition of 350 copies in White vinyl and a detailed inlay card. Cover artwork by Vasso Voulgari. -More Mars

SLICING GRANDPA
- Untitled 7"

Low vibration americana. Three tracks of previously released Grandpa goodness (from long gone tape and cdr editions) that begged for vinyl treatment. The raunchy boogie stomp menace of Grandpa IV, the hedonistic early-industrial vibe of Fuck You and the epic slow burner Falling On Grace that channels a underwater bridge from Berkeley to Port Chalmers. Each gatefold photocopy cover features two different colourized paste-ons. Labels are hand written and drawn. Every Little Skull Dude is a new experience. One time edition of 150 copies.

“Archival single by this presumably still-existant West Coast post-form ensemble. These tracks remind me a bit of the very early Jackie-O Motherfucker stuff. It`s a chaotic melange of noise with free rock action underneath and hints of bad attitude galore” Byron Coley/The Wire 08/12

"Grandpa IV" is no-fi swamp-dogging, reminds me of a really fucked Beck track with a death metal riff, drums out of a can and zombies on backing vox. A great tune that I wouldn't mind people hearing as their intro to the "band". "Fuck You" is industrial-style fuckery, hammering drum box on repeat, feedback as instrument and a loopy thing that sounds like a reverbed spring or electrified coil or some shit. Noise, noise, noise. B-Side is "Falling On Grace", a fidelity-free droner, with muffled screams, creepily building guitars and live drums adding up to an eerie noisescape that sounds like it's slowly being smothered with a pillow or submerged in a vat of glue. Arty and frightening” Rich Kroneis/Terminal Boredom

Dead Gum is the solo project of Panagiotis Spoulos (other projects of his include: Reverse mouth, Wham Jah, Postblue, and running Phase! Records), from Athens, Greece. This past summer we toured with Dead Gum in Greece and we were blown away every night.
